Affiliate Marketers Making Money

Affiliate marketers are succeeding on the Internet and you’ve decided being an affiliate marketer is the avenue you’re taking to make money. Searching has led you to a company with great products and training, free referral websites, and a fantastic compensation plan.

Ready to start promoting and you’re on your way to immediate success. Right?

Before venturing out, here are a few mistakes many new affiliate marketers make that you’ll want to avoid:

10. Lack of a planning and goals

Many people jump in without any clear plan or specific goals.  The idea of making lots of money just isn’t enough.  When you set a long term money goal, you can then break it down to a daily goal.  When you cut it down to Affiliate Marketerssmaller numbers it becomes much easier to plan activities to meet those goals.

Discover how much money you plan to make annually as an affiliate marketer, then monthly, then daily? Try to be realistic and set measurable goals.

9. Expecting instant results with little effort

Any business takes effort whether you work it yourself or oversee a team of independent contractors. Expect to put in the work to make your business a success.

8. Promoting your affiliate link

Most affiliate programs provide the same website to all.  How can you stand out from the rest?  Creating your own website is the perfect way to be unique.

7. Not Collecting Email Addresses

When promoting affiliate links you have two options, send visitors directly to your affiliate link or send them to your website and collect email addresses.

Why is collecting email addresses important?

If you send visitors directly to your affiliate link you only have one shot to make the sale.  If you collect email addresses and follow-up, you have multiple opportunities to make the sale.

As they say, “the money is in the list”.  Your email list is one of your most valuable business assets.  When you collect email addresses you own the list even if you decide to no longer promote the product you originally planned, you can choose to promote anything you want to your list.

Email marketing is a whole other topic.  Providing value to your loyal subscribers is where it’s at.  As your list grows so will your affiliate commissions.

6. Lack of Patience

Believe me, patience isn’t always easy, but it certainly is important.  Once you make a decision to be an affiliate marketer see it through.  You may stumble at first, but when you stick it out it will all be worth it.  In the long run you can make even more money than most people that have regular jobs.

5. Believing in the hype

Those income projections are true, but they are not typical.  If you believe you’ll reach those same income projections your very first month you may be in for a disappointment.  Is it possible, sure.  Is it probable?  Probably not.  Don’t believe hype that you’ll be an overnight millionaire, but do believe you can make a good living if you stick with it.

4. Succumbing To Distractions

Everyone loves to spend a little down time doing something trivial like watching tv or surfing the Internet or even cleaning the house.  The trick is to set a time limit.  Working for yourself takes some discipline.

On the flip side remember to set time for breaks.  A quick ten minute break will re-set you for optimal work.

Treat your business just like a job.  Better yet, treat your business like a business and you will be successful.

3. Refusing To Invest In Their Business

Expecting not to invest in any tools to grow your business is a mistake.  All Affiliate Marketersbusinesses have expenses.  Unlike franchises where you could invest hundreds of thousands of dollars, the wonderful thing about having an affiliate business online is that the expenses are extremely low.

Be prepared to have a budget to invest in your business and re-invest to grow even larger profits. When you earn your first commissions, decide to re-invest a percentage of those funds to grow them even more.  It’s ok to set aside some for yourself, but re-investing in your business is a smart move.

2. Being Afraid Of Failure

Failure is not a bad thing.  Thomas Edison said “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”

Failure is a part of learning.  And truthfully when one fails, generally you know what not to do next time. Take time to test and re-test until you get to where you want to be.  Each month you’ll see your income go up and up.

Failure is a part of life and a part of affiliate marketing.  The only way you’ll be a failure is if you quit.   That brings us to the last tip…

1. Quitting

Just don’t quit.

Like other affiliate marketers, you’ll have down days and you may question why you started this in the first place.  Just keep plugging away.  Learn from those who have figured it out.  No one has ever succeeded by quitting.

Keep on truckin.
